Frequently Asked Questions
Orders and Merchandise
How many wedding invitations should I order?
As a general guideline, it is always recommended that you order at least 25 more wedding invitations than you plan to send out to account for any last minute guests or addressing mistakes. Ordering 25 extra is much less expensive, as re-orders are charged as a new set of 25.
Are your invitations the same ones found in retail stores?
Yes! You can be assured that any invitations ordered with us are the exact same invitations found in retail store albums. All Carlson Craft orders are printed and shipped to you from Carlson Craft, all Encore orders are printed and shipped to you straight from Encore Studios, etc. The only difference is, that by being an online retailer, we eliminate the overhead costs of a retail store which allows us to offer a great discount!
What printing process is used?
All of our invitations and stationery are thermographed unless otherwise noted. Thermography is a type of raised printing and is the most common printing method used today.
You will find a few engraved invitations in Carlson Craft Wedding Invitations and Regency Wedding Invitations.
What are informals?
Some manufacturers will offer informals as part of an invitation ensemble. An informal is usually used as a Thank You card. It is a small card that matches your invitation with one line of text, such as your names, a monogram, or "Thank You" printed on the front. Blank envelopes are included.
How can I make the names larger?
Enter your names like this:
Jane Doe (BIGGER)
And
John Smith (BIGGER)
Your names will not appear larger on the virtual proof, but they will be printed in a larger font on the invitation.
Will I get to see a proof before my order is finished?
Carlson Craft and Regency orders include a virtual proof which will be shown before you finalize your order. Encore and Birchcraft do not have virtual proofing, but faxed or mailed proofs can be ordered for an additional charge.
Wedding Invitation Etiquette and Practice
How should I convey that children are not invited?
Printing "No Children" on an invitation is considered to be a breach of etiquette. It is generally recommended that this request be passed on through word of mouth. If that is not feasible, two gentler options are:
"Adult Reception" on reception card
"Number of adults___" on response card
When should I mail my invitations?
Generally, it is recommended that you mail your invitations out 4-6 weeks before the wedding. If you are planning a large wedding or one with many out of town guests, you may want to send them even earlier.
How should I word my wedding invitations?
There are many ways to word your invitation depending on the style of your wedding, family situation, and your personal taste. When you place a Carlson Craft or Regency invitation, you will have the option of choosing a verse or creating your own verse. When you place an Encore or Birchcraft order, you will be asked to enter your own verse. For more wording help, please see our Wedding and Invitation Guide
